KUCHING: The Ministry of Transport Sarawak (MoTS) welcomes the decision by the federal Ministry of Transport to digitise motor vehicle road tax and driving licence.
MoTS minister Datuk Sri Lee Kim Shin believed that digitising both was in line with the current situation, in which Malaysians have adapted to a digital way of life, alongside application that is online based.
“As we all know, road tax and driving licence are a requirement for all vehicle owners.
“The congestion and long line of getting these services at the Road Transport Department (JPJ) have become an issue among the public lately,” he said in a statement.
He also believed that through this, it enabled the government to provide services to the people more effectively.
“I hope that the public will continue to abide by the law with regard to this matter,” Lee added.
Earlier, it was announced by federal Transport Minister Anthony Loke that private vehicles owned by Malaysians no longer have to display their road tax.
He added that this was part of the ministry’s efforts to digitise JPJ services, particularly for road tax and driving licence.
