KUCHING: Sarawak United have decided not to renew the contract of their Spanish chief coach Juan Carlos Magro Oliva for the next league season.
Sarawak Football Association (FAS) president Datuk Posa Majais said the action was taken after evaluating the performances put up by the former Valencia and Real Madrid Academy coach
in training the state team.
“We made the decision after a friendly match with PDRM, and Magro has since returned to Spain.
“His approach and training methods and strategies are not in line with Sarawak United, not to mention his tactics and game plans for the Premier League,” he said yesterday.
It is clear that, in place of Magro, Sarawak United is currently working with a local coach, and negotiations are ongoing to secure his service.
Posa also said he has decided not to re-engage all the import players.
“We find that some have failed to perform to our expectations and failed to match the skills of the imports playing for the other teams, he said.
Meanwhile, the best-known local players to strengthen Sarawak United this season are former Malaysian, JDT and Selangor player Amri Yahyah, and former Tiger team player Ashri Chuchu.
The Sarawak squad returned yesterday after playing a series of friendly matches in Peninsular Malaysia.
The teamlost in all their matches, 2-1 to Kuala Lumpur, 5-0 to PDRM and 4-1 to Perak II. 5-0 to PDRM and 4-1 to Perak II.
