KUCHING: The police and authorities are urged to take stern action and track down the perpetrator who threw a Molotov cocktail at KK Mart in Jalan Satok here.

Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki strongly condemned the act, describing it as an act of terrorism.

“I urge the public to remain calm and allow the police to conduct their investigation without speculating on the matter,” he said.

He emphasized that such domestic attacks using incendiary devices are unprecedented in Sarawak and go against the cultural values of the community.

“As law-abiding citizens of Sarawak and this nation, we should not take the law into our own hands,” he added.

However, he acknowledged that similar attacks in other parts of the country have tested the unity and resolve of Malaysians, including the community in Sarawak.

“Sarawak has always been a model state in terms of unity among its diverse community, and it is untrue to say that this unity is fragile,” he stated.

He further expressed his condemnation of the act, emphasizing that violence in any form is intolerable and has no place in Sarawak.

Earlier, a fire broke out at a KK Super Mart convenience store in Jalan Satok due to a Molotov cocktail being thrown.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah stated that the incident was reported by a 25-year-old employee of the convenience store.
According to the employee, a carton of drinking water was placed in front of the store and set on fire following the Molotov attack.

The police are actively pursuing the suspect, and the case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years imprisonment and a fine.
