KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg remains undeterred by negative criticisms against him, choosing instead to concentrate on developing and boosting Sarawak’s revenue.
He said he pays no heed to what others may say, instead, he will remain committed to the state’s development with sincerity.
“We need to organise our financial management properly. As we progress now, there are people who get jealous.
“They ‘nganok’ (criticise) me… Nevermind. Let them say what they want.
“I want to see Gedong develop, I want to see Sarawak develop, and by 2030, I want us all to progress together,” he said.
He said this during the 2024 Gedong District Gawai Dayak Ngiling Bidai ceremony held at RTC Munggu Lalang Hall, Gedong, today (June 16).
Abang Johari, who is also the Gedong assemblyman, said jealousy inevitably arises as Sarawak progresses.
“It’s human nature, definitely there will be (feelings) of jealousy. People can criticise me all they want.
“As long as I’m sincere, I’ll receive blessings from God. Right? Because our intentions are good, we continue on (with what is right),” he said, noting his belief that God’s support is with him as a Muslim.
“At the very least, I’m healthy. At 73 years old, I can still walk without a cane. This is a gift from God to me.
“So, as long as our work is sincere and aimed at helping people, God will help us. Because I’m healthy like this, I’m still able to travel—to Australia, to Poland, to Bangkok—teaching people, talking with people, working to develop Sarawak,’ said Abang Johari.
He also called upon community leaders and councillors to focus and work hard in their duty.
“Do not bother about outsiders. The situation we face now is true; perhaps some people are jealous.
“Other states do not have a revenue of RM13 billion. Even if you combine all the states, they can’t surpass Sarawak because we work hard.
“Fortune does not come easily, it only comes when we work hard,” said Abang Johari.
