KUCHING: The turnout of voters in Sarawak as of 4pm today has reached more than 50 percent.
According to an unofficial voters turnout rate posted by Sarawak Unit Public Communications Unit (UKAS) in its Facebook page, the percentage equals to 1,073,725 out of the total registered voters in Sarawak.
Earlier, it was a smooth voting process which commenced from 7.30am until after the polling stations closed around 5.30pm in Sabah and Sarawak.
As for Sarawak, the weather condition was fine from morning until afternoon in most of the parliamentary areas across the state.
Voters were reported to come out as early as 7am to cast their votes at the respective polling station.
State leaders including Head of State Tun Pehin Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib; Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang; Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and his wife, Datin Seri Eng Ong; Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and his wife; Datuk Doreen Mayang; and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan were among those who cast their ballots.
Meanwhile, areas such as Kuching, Sibu and Miri started to see rainfall around 3pm.
Several locations, such as Baram and Limbang also experienced floods due to downpour.
In the 12th Sarawak state election held in December last year, a total of 759,627 voters or 60.67 percent of the electorate in Sarawak turned out to vote.
