THE Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Ministry has welcomed the expansion of air connectivity with Scoot Airlines that will begin operating three weekly flights to Sibu from Singapore starting June 5.
According to Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, the Sarawak Trade and Tourism Office Singapore (STATOS) and Scoot Airways effectively opened up the China market via Singapore, bringing increased visitor numbers and greater visibility to Sarawak in key markets.
“This will enhance our connectivity and facilitate more frequent visits, supporting our tourism sector,” he said.
This enthusiasm is a testament to the successful promotional strategies implemented by STATOS, he said.
“Through the STATOS office, we have received positive feedback from Singapore visitors who have expressed their admiration for Sarawak’s natural beauty, the hospitality of our people and region’s safety,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech today.
He said STATOS is eagerly anticipating the upcoming golf plus business mission in Kuching in June and a collaboration with Miri City Council that is scheduled for September in Miri.
“These events are part of STATOS’ active collaboration with the Sarawak Golf Tourism Association,” he said.
He said the events not only bolster the local economy but also reinforce the capabilities as a host for international business events.
“Under the initiatives coordinated by STATOS, the Meeting, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector saw the successful hosting of a medical association group and three business study groups in Kuching from Singapore over 2023 and 2024 with a total of 350 participants,” he said.
