BINTULU: Sarawak experienced a bitter loss in their bid for gold in sepak takraw, as the women’s team conceded to Sabah in the final of the Women’s round robin team event at Stadium Muhibbah.
Sarawak had to concede to their opponents’ advantage as their first and second teams lost in straight sets.
Despite the loss, the performance of the squad led by Thawinis Thongpraset was full of praise.
“Although we failed to win the first gold medal in sepak takraw, I am very proud of the performance shown by the players.
“We actually aimed for bronze. Alhamdulillah, the silver medal is a bonus for us,” said Datuk Ismail Abang Saufi, president of the Sarawak Sepak Takraw Association to the media after the final.
He explained that reaching the final in the Women’s round robin team event is the best achievement for the Sarawak women’s squad so far.
In the Women’s Team final, Sabah clinched the gold medal after defeating Sarawak 3-0 on Friday night.
The bronze medal went to Perak after they defeated Selangor 2-1.
