KUCHING: The Sarawak X-Tive 2022 programme will kick off on March 5, and is expected to see over 12,000 participants from 12 divisions in the state.
Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the event will be held simultaneously in every division.
He said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will launch the event at Dewan Datuk Patinggi Ali, Gedong on the same day (March 5).
“This is the first event in our ministry for next month, where various programmes would be organised to promote physical activity and sports among the people,” he said during a press conference held here today.
“This is what we want to do as to cultivate a healthy lifestyle as well as to strengthen the unity among the Sarawakians,” he said.
He added that the annual event involves sports and leisure activities, especially to attract youth, women, and elderly.
Karim assured that every activity will be held according to the standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the National Security Council (MKN) and State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).
“We will always monitor the situation; we don’t have to be very worried despite the fact that cases involving the Omicron variant are increasing.”
“After all, we have to learn to live with Covid-19 and reduce the risk of being infected by following the SOP and getting fully vaccinated,” he said.
Among activities listed for the day are fun rides, extreme sports, e-sports, futsal, boat racing and many others.
Also present were Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu and Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Nancy Jolhi.
