KUCHING: Becoming a video content creator can offer a lucrative income; however, it is crucial to always be mindful of the do’s and don’ts in the world of social media.
This is the advice by Sarawak Youtuber Association chairman Abun Bilun to both aspiring and established video content creators.
“As technology provides people the convenience and a platform such as online sharing, video sharing, and social media platforms like YouTube to share our contents, we must use it responsibly and wisely.
“We must refrain from using this platform to propagate hatred or sow disunity among the people,” he told reporters when met after the launching of the association held at Penview Convention Centre Kuching in Demak Laut, Kuching yesterday (July 29).
Abun, who initiated his journey as a YouTube content creator in 2019, stressed the importance of quality, sensitivity, and error prevention in his videos.
“Therefore, I diligently re-listen and re-edit my content multiple times before finally uploading them to my YouTube channel,” he said.
He added that all video content creators should adopt this practice as a habit to enhance the overall quality and impact of their creations.
“It is important for new video content creators to be aware of YouTube’s strict guidelines when uploading content, and among them is hate speech, predatory behaviour, and content that promotes harmful or dangerous behaviour, which are strictly not allowed on the platform,” he pointed out.
On a related note, he said aspiring video content creators must have a passion for creating video content.
“For instance, I love to cook and have posted my cooking videos on YouTube without realising it would attract so many viewers.
“From there, I started uploading videos and began earning revenue from the views watched in USD,” said the former offshore oil and gas worker.
Therefore, he encouraged aspiring video content creators not to be afraid to try new things and also to conduct research to understand what type of content resonates with viewers.
