KUCHING: The Sarawak Youtuber Association has been officially launched with a primary goal to inspire and support Sarawakians in generating side income through online video sharing and social media platforms.
Its chairman Abun Bilun said the rise of social media has led to an increase in YouTube content creators. However, many aspiring creators are unsure where to begin their journey.
“Therefore, the association’s mission is to step forward and provide assistance to those who aspire to create engaging content for YouTube,” he said.
The inauguration took place at the Penview Convention Centre in Demak Laut, Kuching on Saturday evening (July 29).
Abun also expressed the association’s desire to unite Youtubers across Sarawak and create content that showcases the state’s captivating places, food, and vibrant cultural heritage.
“We have set specific goals to feature interesting and historical locations in Sarawak through the content we produce.
“Additionally, we aim to introduce the state’s handicrafts, traditional cuisine, daily activities, and ways of earning a living in the state,” he explained.
Having been successfully registered with the Registry of Societies Malaysia (ROS) on December 5 last year, the association currently boasts a membership of 63 individuals.
“Supporting our members is our top priority, and we are committed to assisting them whenever they encounter challenges or require guidance to generate income from their YouTube channels,” Abun added.
Looking ahead, he said the association plans to organise programmes and workshops catered to new and local content creators.
“One of our dreams is also to set up an official office in either Kuching or Kota Samarahan to further facilitate official affairs,” he said.
As an independent entity, Abun expressed the association’s hope for collaboration and support from the community, private sector, and government agencies to collectively execute beneficial activities for the people of Sarawak.
“In addition to our creative endeavours, we also aspire to engage in charitable works to extend help to those in need,” he said.
Membership in the association is open to individuals from all backgrounds, and the lifetime fee is RM50.
