KUCHING: Malaysia’s Fedealis Kom Twin has won a silver medal at the 16th Asean Taekwondo Federation Championship 2023 in Manila, recently.
A delighted coach, Tan Cheng Qiang, said the 15-year-old athlete from Kuching Taekwondo and Self-Defence Club (WTF), who is a source of inspiration for his teammates and the club, gave his best at the tournament.
“Fedealis has become an inspiration for our club and all the young members. He did well in every match and he put in great effort to win the silver and make us proud in this Asean meet,” he said.
Tan thanked Persatuan Taekwondo Negeri Sarawak (WTF) and Taekwondo Malaysia (WTF) for giving Fedealis the opportunity to gain valuable experience at a high-profile competition.
The coach also thanked the state and national associations as well as the athlete’s parents and guardians for their unwavering support.
Tan noted that Fedealis’ performance is a testament to the latter’s hard work and dedication to the sport, which he has been able to improve upon after attending short-term intensive training sessions with the national team.
The silver medal is a well-deserved recognition of his talent, added the coach.
For the record, Fedealis also did well and brought home a gold medal for Sarawak in the 13th TM (WTF)-NSC-Milo National Taekwondo Championship 2023 in Kuala Lumpur, last month.
Fedealis also won a silver medal in the 15th Asean Taekwondo Federation Championship held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam last year.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese national taekwondo team emerged champions with 27 gold medals followed by the Philippines (21 golds) and Indonesia (five golds).
About 380 athletes and officials from the eight nations participated in the event from March 10-12.
