APPOINTMENT SHELL MALAYSIA & PHILIPPINES

MIRI: Shell Malaysia yesterday announced the appointment of Ivan Tan as its new vice president for Shell Malaysia and Philippines, and Sarawak Shell Berhad and Sabah Shell Petroleum Company Limited managing director effective from Feb 1.

The Sarawakian who grew up in Miri, will be based in his hometown. Joining Shell in 2001, Tan’s early career comprised a number of well engineering and well operations assignments in Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand and China.

Following this, he had several leadership roles, including general manager Wells Operations and Contracting and Procurement manager for Projects in Malaysia. 

In April, 2014, Tan was appointed as vice president Well HSE, based in Netherlands. Tan then moved to Australia in Jan, 2016 where he was the Technical Lead of the Shell/BG integration team.

Six months later, he was appointed as chief operating officer for Arrow Energy, one of Shell’s joint ventures.

In Sarawak, Tan was responsible for the end-to-end delivery of capacity development, projects, wells, asset management and energy markets for Arrow’s business in the natural gas industry.

He was also the co-chair and president of Queensland Natural Gas Exploration and the Production Industry Safety Forum.

Shell Malaysia chairman Datuk Iain Lo said, “It is good to have one of our very own talents, who is known for his strong safety and operational leadership, leading our Upstream business.

“Ivan personally led a step change in safety culture and contributed towards a stronger and more sustainable operational capability, in his previous role. I am confident that he will further drive our Upstream business in bringing value for our customers and for Shell.”

Tan holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) with First Class Honours from Imperial College, London and a Master’s in Business Administration with distinction from Manchester Business School, United Kingdom.
