KUCHING: Independent film Love Crush will showcase an 80 per cent local Sarawakian crew and talent which is a major breakthrough for the state’s creative industries.

Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Snowdan Lawan applauded the initiative and passion demonstrated by the film’s producer, director and screenwriter, Johan Chairil.

‘I am elated to see that Sarawak has attracted experienced industry professionals such as Johan, who are willing to share their knowledge and expertise with our local talents and crews.

“It is through such collaborations that we can nurture and grow our creative ecosystem, ensuring that our homegrown talents have the opportunity to learn from the best in the business,” he said during a press conference on the principal photography for the film here on Tuesday (Sept 10).

Snowdan stated that any filmmakers seeking grants to fund their film production can also apply to the ministry.

He encouraged them to do so as long as they are doing it to promote Sarawak.

Johan, meanwhile, believes that the focus should be more on efforts to develop creative talent, especially in creating more opportunities for aspiring producers who can champion the stories of Sarawak and bring them to the global stage.

“By nurturing and empowering local producers, we can unlock the true potential of Sarawak’s creative ecosystem,” he said.

Filming is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month, featuring local Sarawakian talent like Joshua E. James, Agnes Gabin and Rowena Jala.
