MIRI: The sport of boccia can expect a shot in the arm with the election of new officials from Sarawak to help lead the Malaysia Boccia Association,
Newly-elected national vice president Chi Poh Yung and its secretary general Vencent Teri have drawn up plans to take the sport to the next level, in terms of its popularity and growth.
They are confident this can be achieved with a clear vision and strategic plan in place to increase participation, enhance training programmes, and promote inclusivity within the sport.
Chi, who is also Sarawak Boccia Association president, said it is a heavy responsibility for him as he has just been elected as the state president for the new term 2024-2026.
Teri who is also Sarawak Boccia Association adviser disclosed that he and Chi, have many plans for boccia in the country over the next few years.
“Among the plans are strengthening our coaching qualities across all states, developing a more structured system to develop new talents and organising international competitions in Malaysia,” he said.
They were elected during the 7th Malaysia Boccia Association annual general meeting (AGM) held at Pusat Kecemerlangan Sukan Paralimpik Kampung Pandan, in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday.
During the AGM, Siti Zaharah Abdul Khalid was elected as President, Mohd Amja Mohd Bohari is Vice President 1 and Nur Atikah MD Khamis, as Treasurer.
Committee members include Mustaffa Ariffin, Nik Fakrurazi Ngah Ibrahim, Mohd Mokhtar Ibrahim, Abdul Rahman Yaakop and Hassan Mustaffar.
The AGM was attended by its affiliates from Selangor, Johor, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Perak and Sarawak while Sabah was invited to sit in as observers as they are new to this sport.
