KUCHING: Two Sarawakians have been appointed Malaysian ambassadors to Brazil and the Holy See.
On Wednesday, Gloria Corina Peter Tiwet, the ambassador to Brazil and the envoy to the Holy See, Hendy Assan, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Well-being Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah at the Baitulmakmur Building 2.
Fatimah appreciated the courtesy visit and hoped both ambassadors will keep Sarawak in mind once they move to their respective posts in search of cooperation with Malaysia.
“We know they represent Malaysia and it is certain that this country is the main focus, but we hope they will not forget Sarawak and help highlight this state, including in terms of unity – the good practices that contribute to unity among communities of various races and religions.
“At the same time, not to forget to share about our women in Sarawak, including the support system we have established through the ministry to become an inclusive state,” she told reporters.
Gloria will play a role in looking at bilateral relations between Malaysia and Brazil, including cooperation in sectors such as agriculture and trade cooperation.
“It is very important for us to increase trade between the two countries because our government looks at cooperation between leaders through this sector,” she said.
At the same time, Hendy informed that the Holy See is quite different and has no trade or investment relations.
“Basically they promote dialogue between religions from all over the world.
“The Holy See is where the Pope resides and we also try to show and share our experiences as a progressive Islamic country because they look up to Malaysia.
“We have this kind of partnership, at the same time we are also looking into the welfare of Malaysians who live and study in Vatican City.
“We may also be able to work together in other social, cultural and educational fields,” he added.
On Feb 9, the Yang DiPertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah appointed 10 new Malaysian Heads of Diplomatic Missions at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.
