KUCHING: The public has warmly received the appointment of Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar as the eighth Sarawak Governor (TYT).

His assumption of the TYT office, following his appointment by Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah at Istana Negara last Friday, has elicited positive reactions across Sarawak.

In response, New Sarawak Tribune conducted interviews to capture the sentiments and expectations of Sarawakians for their new Governor.

“I am looking forward to having a new TYT who has a solid background, a wealth of experience, and is well-respected, elements that are crucial to our beloved state. Moreover, the new TYT should be a well-known figure in Malaysia as his appointment will uphold Sarawak’s strategic geopolitical position.”

“My hope is that this beautiful state will continue to prosper and become a developed state. I am confident that our current administration will deliver what is best for Sarawak and will continue to improve. Rome was not built in a day, but recent growth has shown us the potential and the dream we hope to achieve: a high-income state with a thriving community. I think I speak for most when we say we always pray for the best for Sarawak. So, with that said, dum spiro spero.”

“The appointment of the TYT of Sarawak, envisioning a Head of State who will represent Sarawak with principles of democracy, fairness, and accountability, is crucial. Beyond political affiliations, the incoming TYT must play a vital role in safeguarding democracy, acting as a fair referee in politics, and providing a non-political voice during times of crisis and celebration.”
