KUCHING: The arts and culture industry in Sarawak has seen significant development in recent years.

National Department for Arts and Culture (JKKN) Sarawak director Noor Seela Noor Sulaiman said the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, under the leadership of minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, is working hard to develop the arts and culture industry.

“For instance, the development of its talent. We have seen quite a number of unique talents in the state being showcased.

“It is also due to Sarawak having 27 ethnic groups, and rich in its own arts, culture and traditions.

“Sarawak is never left behind when it comes to showcasing its culture not only within the national scene, but also at international level.”

Noor Seela said this when met by reporters after officiating the Arts and Culture Marketing and Sponsorship Workshop closing ceremony at Auditorium, Jabatan Belia dan Sukan Sarawak here on Tuesday (July 16).

“As the matter of fact, the state is now at the same level as Indonesia on the development of arts and culture compared to other states in Malaysia.”

When asked how the state-owned television station TVS could play a role in developing the arts and culture industry here, she said various television programmes showcasing Sarawak through its arts and culture should be produced more.

“More programmes that showcase the uniqueness of Sarawak should be produced more for the viewers of not only Malaysia, but also for the world.

“TVS could capture more through its lens in detail the uniqueness and richness of Sarawak arts and culture comparing to other production or media companies out there that probably do the same programmes,” she added.
