KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 219 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday (Feb 25), bringing the state’s tally to 8,869.
In a statement on Thursday, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 80 of these cases were recorded in Sibu District, Kapit (26), Bintulu (25), Kuching (18), Meradong (17), Miri (12), Samarahan (11), Serian (10), Selangau (8), Sri Aman (5), Saratok (3), Kanowit (1), Sarikei (1), Bukit Mabong (1), and Betong (1).
On the 80 cases in Sibu District, they said 63 were individuals screened through active case detection (ACD) of contacts of positive cases, 12 were other screenings at health centres, three were health workers, and two were symptomatic individuals screened at health centres.
“Of the 26 cases in Kapit District, 18 cases involved the Gelong Cluster, five were individuals screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases, two were other screenings at health centres, and one was a symptomatic individual screened at a health centre.”
They said 23 of the 25 cases in Bintulu District were individuals screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases while the remaining two were individuals with symptoms screened at health centres.
As for the 18 cases in Kuching District, they said 14 were individuals screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases, two involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster, and two were health workers.
“There were 17 cases recorded in Meradong District – 13 involved the Sungai Bakong Cluster while four were individuals screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases.”
They said of the 12 cases in Miri District, five were other screenings at health centres, three were individuals screened through ACD, two were symptomatic persons screened at health centres, one was a local who had returned from Perak (categorised as an Import B case), and one was an Indian national who had returned from India (categorised as an Import A case).
As for the 11 cases recorded in Samarahan District, SDMC said eight involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster, two were individuals screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases, and one involved the Jalan Green Cluster (categorised as an Import C case, infection from Kuching).
“Of the 10 cases reported in Serian District, six involved the Emperoh Jambu Cluster (categorised as an Import C case, infection from Kuching), two involved the Jalan Ho Pin Cluster (categorised as an Import C case, infection from Kuching), one was an individual screened through ACD (categorised as an Import C case, infection from Kuching), and one was a symptomatic person screened at a health centre.”
All eight cases detected in Selangau District were persons screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases.
Three of the five cases in Sri Aman District were other screenings at health centres while the other two involved the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster.
“Three cases were recorded in Saratok District, involving individuals screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases.”
The single case reported in Betong District involved the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster while the single case detected in Bukit Mabong District involved the Gelong Cluster.
SDMC said the one case each detected in the districts of Sarikei and Kanowit were persons screened through ACD of contacts of positive cases.
