MIRI: Volunteers expressed immense joy and satisfaction after Sarawak was crowned the overall champions at the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) 2024.

The athletes’ dedication and hard work throughout the event were recognised with this prestigious title, which marked a significant achievement for them.

The athletes’ success was not only a testament to their commitment but also a source of pride.

Sarawak Tribune interviewed volunteers after the sailing evening held at Marina Bay on Saturday.

Norman Wasli, who was a volunteer for the sailing event, has congratulated Sarawak for its outstanding performance.  

“I am proud that the Sarawak team emerged as overall champions, and that it was even sweeter it was held in Sarawak,” said the 44-year old.

Originally from Kapit, Sarawak, he has been residing in the city for a long time.

Norman, who works as a freelance in property, said that the sporting spirit demonstrated by the athletes is very high and impressive.

“The spirit of unity shown by all the ethnic groups in Sarawak is truly remarkable,” said Norman.

Additionally, Jaharah Suhaili expressed happiness that Sarawak emerged as overall champions, especially since it was held in Sarawak.

“We, the people of Sarawak, welcome everyone to come to Sarawak, and this sport helps unite us in harmony and spirit,” said Jaharah who was a volunteer for sailing.

The 36-year-old, who owns a business here, hails from Kuching but has been living in the city for 16 years and was overjoyed by the result.
