KUCHING: The percentage of children in Sarawak who are receiving early education prior to entering primary school has surged to an impressive 98.85 per cent this year.
Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah lauded this increase as a noteworthy achievement.
“We take pride in granting access to early childhood education, including within the five Penan taska centres,” said the Sarawak Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development.
“The establishment of these Penan child care centres was made possible through Petronas funding, while the Sarawak government provided teacher training.”
She made these remarks during a press conference after a courtesy visit by the National Association of Early Childhood Care & Education Malaysia (Naeccem) at her office on today (Aug 14).
Highlighting that every child in Sarawak deserves early education, Fatimah emphasised her ministry’s commitment, initiated through the Early Childhood Development Council, to ensure universal access to such education.
She stressed that her ministry collaborates extensively with organisations like Naeccem to uphold the standards of high-quality early childhood education.
The visit, led by Naeccem president Shamsinah Shariff and accompanied by several exco members, aimed to reinforce the bond with the ministry responsible for early childhood development.
Shamsinah commended Fatimah’s dedicated efforts in advancing early childhood education development in Sarawak.
She also expressed aspirations for collaborative opportunities between Naeccem and the ministry, intending to learn from Sarawak’s pioneering initiatives in early childhood education.
