MUKAH: Sarawak’s green energy initiatives are not only expected to boost the state’s economy, but also strengthen the country’s economic position.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak’s strength contributes directly to Malaysia’s strength.

“If Sarawak is strong, Malaysia is strong. If Sarawak is advanced, Malaysia is also advanced,” he said during the Leaders with The People dinner at Kingwood Resort, here on Tuesday night.

Abang Johari earlier said from an economic perspective, the state was gaining global recognition for its focus on green energy.

“We give emphasis on green energy. We produce green energy, different from other people.

“We are also grateful to God because we have abundant natural resources including hydro. Now we use new energy sources such as hydrogen and solar and the state is experimenting with wave energy production in Bintulu.

“Because of our approach towards green energy, Sarawak is invited to speak abroad,” he said, adding that Sarawak’s commitment to green energy has led to invitations to share their experiences on global platforms.

“I was surprised to be invited to speak about the new economy and green energy. I’ve spoken in Poland, Rotterdam, Bangkok, Singapore and next week, I will be speaking in Australia about new energy.

“The state has also been invited to speak in Hong Kong. Alhamdulillah, the world has known Sarawak,” he said.

He further said most importantly the people must maintain and continue to strengthen their unity as the state continues to pursue innovative approaches.
