KUCHING: Sarawak’s achievement in attaining a high income of RM11.9bil for 2022 is set to bring significant benefits to its people, says Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.

In his speech during the Special Officer (Petugas Khas) Appreciation Ceremony here on Wednesday (July 26), the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker highlighted that Sarawak’s income is the highest among all states in Malaysia, with Sabah ranking second, followed by Selangor.

“With such a substantial income, the Sarawak government is actively providing various forms of assistance to benefit its citizens.

“Some of these initiatives include the RM10,000 Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDSA), Maternity Assistance (BIB), low-interest loan assistance, and RM1,000 savings under the Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS) for each birth of a child.”

Asfia stressed that the Sarawak government’s commitment to its people is unparalleled, with no other government worldwide providing such extensive benefits to its citizens.

“The success and progress achieved in the state have enabled the government to reinvest the high income back into the wellbeing of its residents.”

He further highlighted the state’s impressive strides in improving the economy through innovative methods such as the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from algae and carbon capture, usage, and storage (CCUS) activities.

“The hard work and dedication of Sarawak’s leaders ensure a promising future for the state, especially for the younger generation. The stability and harmony prevailing in Sarawak have also instilled confidence in investors, attracting more investments to the region.”

During the ceremony, 110 officers from 14 government agencies, departments and statutory bodies were recognised and celebrated for their efforts in contributing to the success of the DUN sitting held last May. Asfia also presented certificates of appreciation to representatives from each agency.
