KUCHING: The celebration of Sarawak’s 60th Independence Day anniversary in 2023 will be more lively and meaningful for Sarawakians.
In stating this, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that, despite the official date being July 22, the celebration next year will take place earlier.
“As Sarawakians, we should view this anniversary celebration as the foundation for sowing patriotic spirit and unity among the multi-racial community in Bumi Kenyalang.
“Therefore, with the celebration being held earlier, it will give opportunity to all Sarawakians in every corner of Bumi Kenyalang to experience the excitement of the celebration and to understand the meaning behind it,” he said at the New Year’s 2023 Countdown at Stadium Perpaduan here, today (Dec 31).
Meanwhile, touching on the countdown, aside from the main agenda, he pointed out that it will also be a platform to notify the initiatives of the state government through the organisation of various programmes and activities, including the soon-to-be-announced 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s Independence Day.
Following this, he also encouraged each ministry and divisional administration to hold various programmes and activities in conjunction with the anniversary.
“The activities organised should have an impact that can support the main goal of the celebration, which is to serve as a platform to strengthen one’s identity as a Sarawakian who is proud and loves Sarawak while also based on unity in diversity.
“Other than that, it should also provide benefits to the local population both socially and economically, and be inclusive with the involvement of the economic, tourism, social and digital sectors,” he said.
Having said that, he expected that the year 2023 would be another interesting and bright period of time for all Sarawakians.
“Thank you to the people for your continued commitment and support throughout this year. Every level of society plays an important role in achieving success this year.
“In the year 2023, I hope we can together continue to strive to achieve a better quality of life under the leadership of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government,” he expressed.
