Sarawak is planning to construct roads using recycled materials, making use of discarded plastic bottle caps and rubber crumbs.

These materials are believed to result in longer-lasting, higher-quality, sustainable, and eco-friendly roadways.

Deputy Energy and Environmental Sustainability Minister Dr Hazland Abang Hipni revealed that a company in Kuching is employing cutting-edge technology to transform used tires into rubber crumbs, which will be utilised in road construction.

Speaking at a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony at UNIMAS campus on Monday (July 17), Hazland stated that the decision to use recycled plastic bottle caps was due to their non-toxic nature.

This innovative technology will see its debut in the road repairs of the Bintulu-Miri route, setting a precedent for sustainable road-building practices in the region.
