BETONG: Sarawak secured one bronze medal on the first day of the weightlifting event of the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma).

Katierina Bojing bagged the bronze in the women’s 45kg category with a lift of 108kg at Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan, today (Aug 19).

She finished behind Perak’s Qistina Qharisya Suffia Mohd Muzani (gold) and Sabah’s Irene Jane Henry (silver).

In men’s 55kg category, gold was won by Perlis’ Muhammad Azri Irfan Azhar while silver went to Pahang’s Mohamad Rahimi Sulaiman and bronze was picked up by Federal Territories’ Ahmad Darwisy Zharfan Ahmad Tharmidzi.

Kedah’s Muhammad Amin Hakimi Mohd Shukry claimed gold in the men’s 61kg category.

In the same category, the silver medal went to Terengganu’s Muhammad Muslim Mohd Anwar and bronze to Sabah’s Mark Dylan Marcus.

Nigel Agas Daniel finished sixth in the men’s 54kg category and, in the men’s 61kg category, Fideliz Bantin Dahlan finished seventh.

Christopher Romeo Tedong, president of the Sarawak Weightlifting Association, said the team aimed to win two more medals in the women’s 49kg category and men’s 65kg category on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, three more finals will be contested – the women’s 49kg and 55kg, and the men’s 67kg category.
