KUCHING: A new Covid-19 cluster in Sarawak, dubbed the Abell Cluster, has been identified.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said this cluster brings the total number of active clusters to six.
The other five clusters are the Wisma Saberkas Cluster, Bah Arnab Cluster, Baki Cluster, Seladah Cluster and Greenhill Cluster, all in Kuching.
“Today (Nov 13), the State Health Department declares one new cluster, the Abell Cluster in Kuching district.
“This cluster involves areas in Pending and Padungan. The index case for this cluster was identified positive for Covid-19 as a result of voluntary screening at a private medical laboratory on Nov 10.
“Close contact screenings detected 13 positive cases of which 10 were reported in Kuching today,” the committee said.
All of the cases have been admitted to the isolation wards in Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.
As of noon today, a total of 70 individuals have been screened, of which 14 cases were found positive (plus the index case), 13 were negative and 43 are still awaiting results.
SDMC said that there are still five active clusters (apart from Abell Cluster). From the Wisma Saberkas Cluster, 1,245 individuals have been screened, of which 42 cases were positive; 1,121 were negative; and 82 are still awaiting results.
The Bah Arnab Cluster remains with 12 positive cases; Baki Cluster has 33; Seladah Cluster has six; and Greenhill Cluster has 88.
“Kuching district remains a red zone with a total of 130 local infection cases reported in the last 14 days.
“Meanwhile, Lawas district has turned from green into yellow status after one new case was reported today. Limbang district, on the other hand, has changed from yellow to green after no cases of local infection were detected within the last 14 days.
“Miri and Lundu districts remained yellow. This brings the total number of districts with red status to one. Three districts are yellow and 36 remain green,” the committee said.
