SIBU: The state’s political stability is Sarawak’s best strength, says Michael Tiang Ming Tee.
The Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government said it brought focus on development.
Tiang in his speech when officiating at the opening of the new Shell petrol station of Syarikat Sri Minyak Tenaga Sdn Bhd in Jalan Sungai Maaw here today also noted that it further provided a conducive environment for investment and entrepreneurship.
“…most importantly political stability actually helps us to overcome challenges that never happened before the Covid-19 epidemic, Sarawak is the fastest to achieve a high vaccination percentage in Malaysia,” he said.
The Pelawan assemblyman said GPS’ victory in four seats in Sibu during the 12th state election resulted in the town receiving a development allocation of at least RM10mil per assemblyman.
“This allocation does not include some special projects initiated by the four GPS assemblymen here.
“Some of the special projects we have started are the most important because they involved the construction of four new ‘missing link’ roads in Sibu, which required a budget of RM500mil.”
Tiang said the roads were Jalan Khong Yit Kim, Jalan Kemuyang to Pasai Siong, Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah (new road) connecting to Jalan Oya, and Jalan Oya connecting to Jalan Aman.
“We believe these four ‘missing links’ will unlock Sibu’s great potential to become a vibrant central hub for the economy, finance, education, medicine, and cultural tourism.
“So, to the residents of Bawang Assan, please come back to GPS and allow us to build Bawang Assan without delay. Make the right choice this coming GE15, choose GPS to change Bawang Assan.”
Also present were Sri Minyak Group executive chairman Datuk William Tiu Sii Chuon; GPS candidate for Sibu, Clarence Ting, and others.
