KUCHING: Sarawak’s Power Planning and Coordination Committee (PPCC) is focusing on strategies for coordinating, planning and allocating power supply within the state.

In a press release from the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment on today (Jan 22), it said the PPCC has presented recommendations for the targeted allocation of power to specific strategic customers, aligning with the state’s policies aimed at prioritising inbound investments.

“This involved a comprehensive review and evaluation of the balance between supply and demand for power in the state, as well as an examination of the sequence and timing of major investment projects in power generation and relevant network developments.

“Operating under RECODA and chaired by Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the PPCC was initially established during the early stages of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) as an avenue to oversee the strategic development and distribution of power dedicated to bulk industries,” the statement read.

The statement added that in line with the Sarawak government’s commitment to advancing strategic energy management and promoting sustainable development, the PPCC convened on Jan 17, 2024 at Wisma Sumber Alam.

The meeting was also attended by Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi; State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; and Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.

Also in attendance were Sarawak Energy Berhad Group CEO Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, along with representatives of various agencies.
