KUCHING: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has commended the private sector for demonstrating resilience during the challenging period of the Covid-19 pandemic by embracing innovation and new technology.
During the launching of the Premier of Sarawak Industry Excellence Awards (PSIEA) 2023, his speech, read by Deputy Minister for International Trade and Investment, Datuk Dr Malcom Mussen Lamoh, highlighted the entrepreneurial spirit of the business communities.
“Through innovation and digitalisation across sectors, entrepreneurs are unlocking new opportunities and driving Sarawak toward a brighter future,” he said on Thursday (June 22).
Awang Tengah emphasised that as the world gradually recovers from the pandemic, Sarawak is well-positioned to attract investors, particularly in the manufacturing sector.
“Sarawak remains one of Malaysia’s most popular investment destinations, and the state government has implemented the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 to ensure unhindered economic development.
“Six economic sectors, including manufacturing, have been identified to spearhead growth and contribute to expected GDP growth of six per cent to eight per cent per annum.”
Awang Tengah urged entrepreneurs to proactively seize the opportunities created by government initiatives and leverage technology and innovation for greater success.
Later at a press conference, Mussen expressed his satisfaction with the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government’s efforts to create new avenues and sectors aligned with PCDS 2030.
“The government aims to promote participation in sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, renewable energy, services, and mining.
“Sarawak provides an inclusive environment for investors to introduce new technologies and innovative products to the national market.”
The PSIEA, themed “Prosperity, Inclusivity, Sustainability: Advancing Sarawak Toward 2030”, will take place at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Oct 9.
Sarawak Business Federation president Datuk Seri Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg highlighted that the PSIEA would identify organisations that have contributed to the state’s economic development and foster healthy competition within Sarawak’s industries.
“Furthermore, these outstanding organisations are expected to serve as reference models, injecting motivation and fostering healthy competition within the industries in Sarawak, in particular,” he added.
