KUCHING: Sarawak’s tennis team is set to face the Federal Territory in the semi-finals of the mixed team event today (Aug 18) at the ongoing 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) tennis competition.

Competing under Group C at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) court, the home team secured their spot after a 3-2 victory over Penang yesterday (Aug 17).

Earlier, yesterday, the home team narrowly lost to Selangor, 2-3 in the same event.

They managed to advance to the quarter final after being able to stay in the top two of the Group.

However, today’s match has been slightly delayed due to rain and expected to resume before 1 pm today.

Sarawak’s tennis is aiming to clinch two gold medals at this year’s SUKMA.

Its head coach Arvin Tabil Jurao previously said he sees potential in the women’s doubles and team event for the gold target.

The mixed team event starts on Aug 16 and runs until Aug 19, with individual event scheduled from today (Aug 18) until 22.

The competition will feature five tennis events namely men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed events.
