KUALA LUMPUR: Talent development among local youth holds significant importance for the economic transformation of Sarawak.
Having said this, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg noted that well-trained youth are likely to succeed in any field.
As an example, he cited the outstanding achievement of a Sarawakian student at the University of Oxford, who was conferred with a rare distinction award in the Diplomatic Studies Programme.
“His achievement proves that many of our Sarawakian children have succeeded. That is why talent development is very important for us to transform our economy,” he said.
He said this during the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2023 dinner held in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of Sarawak’s Independence at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here last night (Oct 21).
He also pointed out the importance of Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 in the development of the state.
He added that given the changing global landscape, Sarawak’s development is anchored in three pillars: economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability.
“Alhamdulillah, we have the resources given by God and we are managing them well. We pray that Sarawak will always be peaceful, prosperous, developed and have high income.
“It is my hope that our dream for the state will come true,” he said.
