KUCHING: The Sarawak E-Sports Expo 2024 (SAREC 24) is set to electrify the local e-sports scene and attract international participants from December 13 to 15 at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Event Ground.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that SAREC 24 will be a bigger and more inclusive event, encompassing competitions, exhibitions, and workshops to foster a holistic e-sports ecosystem.

“This isn’t just a tournament; it’s a platform to showcase local talent on the international stage and position Sarawak as a hub for cultural and gaming exchange,” he told a press conference at Hilton Hotel today (Nov 29).

The event is expected to contribute significantly to Sarawak’s tourism and hospitality sectors.

“Visitors will need accommodations, food, and shopping, boosting local businesses. SAREC 24 will help establish Sarawak as a hub for digital innovation and cultural exchange,” he said.

He added that the growing recognition of e-sports at major events like the SEA Games is opening doors for local players to compete globally.
