Sarawak government is to carry on with its Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (Sares) for the benefit of eight villages and longhouses.
Rural Electricity Assistant minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi (GPS-Pantai Damai) said this in respond to Rolland Duat Jubin (GPS-Meluan) in the August House yesterday.
Abdul Rahman said the government will carry on the Sares project in the rural areas of Sungai Mujok where the project is scheduled to start in 2020 and expected to take eight months to complete.
“The estimate project cost is RM19 million and it will be beneficial to 312 houses in that area as soon as it is complete,” he said.
Responding to Alexander Vincent (GPS-Ngemah), he said that the area in Ulu Ngemah is located within the vicinity of the grid line.
He further added that the government is planning to build an extra high voltage (EHV) substation in Kanowit to connect to the main power grid.
The EHV substation in Kanowit is scheduled to be completed by end of 2020 as it is under the Rural Electricity Masterplan which is fully funded by the Sarawak government.
The project tender was awarded in April along with the expected cost of RM105 million.
“In this matter, Nanga Kajah and Lubok Tanjung were not listed for the Sares project because these areas are planned to connect to the grid after the EHV substation in Kanowit is constructed,” he said.
Electrical supply to the remaining villages will be carried out in a year’s duration through the rural electrification masterplan funded by the Sarawak government.
