SARIKEI: The Sarikei District Council took second place in the Local Authorities Awards for the ‘Stray Animal Management’ category at the national level Environmental Health Campaign.
The campaign was organised by federal Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) in conjunction with the 2024 World Environmental Health Day celebration.
Council secretary Sait Enggang received the certificate and plaque from Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu at the awards presentation ceremony held at Bangi Avenue Convention Centre, Selangor on Tuesday (Oct 8).
Sait thanked all parties involved in the achievement, including Tanjong Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab and local community leaders.
He said the success reflects the council’s ongoing efforts to improve environmental health for the local community.
The council also hopes to maintain the cooperation and support for future activities aimed at promoting public health, well-being, and a sustainable environment.
KPKT’s Environmental Health Campaign includes seven main sub-programmes: Clean Food Premises, Clean Public Markets, Clean ‘BMW’ Public Toilets, Rat Infestation Control, Stray Animal Management, Dengue Prevention, and Dengue Hotspot Eradication.
Themed ‘Sustainable Environment Driving Malaysia Madani, the campaign has been an annual event by KPKT since 2012, focusing on promoting the role and contributions of KPKT and Local Authorities (PBT) in maintaining environmental cleanliness and health, particularly in disease prevention and community well-being.
