SARIKEI: Sarikei MP Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii has encouraged longhouses in Sarawak to apply for the Longhouse Loan Scheme provided by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) for repairs.

Huang made this statement during his visit to several longhouses in his area, where he allocated funds for essential repairs to facilities, including roofs, floors, ceilings and fans.

“While older longhouses require frequent maintenance, new constructions have reduced upkeep costs, providing a more sustainable solution for the future.

“Through HDC loans, the government aims to improve housing conditions and enhance the quality of life for rural communities, offering a comfortable and safe environment,” he said.

Having served as a representative for Sarikei and Repok for over eight years, Huang has prioritised road and infrastructure development.
He noted that ongoing government-funded projects to pave roads with concrete or asphalt are easing transportation in remote areas and facilitating progress in these communities.
The recent improvement in road connectivity is expected to elevate living standards in Sarikei and surrounding longhouse areas.
The Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister visited Rh Taka Jabu, Rh Damat Rangking, Rh Rampoo Paing, Rh Jalang Ambara and several other longhouses along Jalan Ulu Paoh.
His approach has been to establish close ties with residents, listening to their needs and concerns, and demonstrating a people-first attitude, which has been widely appreciated.
During his visits, Huang expressed gratitude to longhouse residents and constituents for their support during the general and state elections, noting that this backing empowers him to serve the community even better.
He added that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government remains committed to the welfare and development of all Sarawak citizens, regardless of religion, race or background.
Under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Huang highlighted that GPS is ensuring that rural and longhouse communities experience meaningful advancements in infrastructure and quality of life.
