Sarikei police focusing on accident hotspots

SARIKEI: During the Road Safety Campaign held in conjunction with forthcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Gawai Dayak celebrations, the police force is focusing on two accident hotspots in this division.

Sarikei District Police Chief Superintendent Awang Arfian Awang Bujang said the accident hotspots were from KM421 to KM431 of Sarikei-Betong Road (from Sebangkoi to SMK Sungai Paoh) and from KM 439 to KM448 of Sarikei-Betong Road (from Simpang Bulat to Simpang Pakan).

“We also identified six other accident hotspots, namely Bintangor-Sarikei Road, Bintangor-Sibu, Tulai-Narasit Road, Skim B-Pasi Road, Selidap Road and Bintangor-Gemuan Road,” he added.

Awang Arfian explained that the Road Safety Campaign was aimed at ensuring smooth traffic and reducing the number of accidents during the festive seasons.

“We expect road users to be more careful and to comply with any traffic rules.

“Do not drive beyond speed limits and do not use mobile phones while driving as well.

“Please take a break from driving if you are sleepy,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

More policemen, he added, would be patrolling the accident hotspots during the Road Safety Campaign.

Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii officiated at the launch of the campaign yesterday.

Also present were Meradong District police chief DSP Sekam Anoi, Sarikei Division Resident Felicia Tan Ya Hua and Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU) project manager Suhaili Salleh.

Road safety materials including safety booklets were distributed to road users during the launch organised by the division-level Road Safety Committee in collaboration with the LBU and Pan Borneo Highway.
