SARIKEI: Four bright students from here are set to attend the Technovation Girls World Summit in the United States this October.

Eunice Law, Irene Ngu, Jaynee Loo, and Christine Wong, named ‘Team Agape,’ secured a spot among the top five global finalists in the senior category for Technovation Girls 2024, earning them an all-expenses-paid trip.

They will have the opportunity to meet other global finalists, learn from leading women in the tech industry, and present their innovative projects on an international platform.

During a finalist flag-off ceremony at SMK Tinggi Sarikei, which also marked the launch of the Girlscode Mobile App Challenge 2024, Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee highlighted the significance of the challenge.

He said the Girlscode Mobile App Challenge, now in its fourth year, plays an important role in motivating young female students to address community issues through technology.

“Since its inception, Girlscode has influenced over 600 female students in Malaysia, fostering their interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields and enhancing their skills in design thinking, coding, entrepreneurship, and presentation.

“This programme is crucial in bridging the gender gap in these fields, particularly in engineering, where female representation is lower.

“Our goal is to cultivate a diverse group of problem solvers who will drive innovation in Sarawak. I encourage all female students to participate in the Girlscode Mobile App Challenge 2024.

“Bring forth your innovative ideas and help tackle real-world problems in your communities,” he said.

The Girlscode Mobile App Challenge is supported by the Sarawak Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development and the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC).
