KUCHING: The basketball stadium in Sarikei, once completed, will contribute significantly to the sport’s development, says Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.
“I have allocated RM500,000 from the rural transformation project (RTP) funds in 2018 and 2020, then RM150,000 in 2021 to the basketball association for the construction of the stadium in Meranti,” said the Repok assemblyman.
“Construction is expected to be completed soon, and the stadium will help in the development of the game here. I hope that the association will actively promote the sport and attract more youths to get involved.”
Huang said he would continue to serve the people of Sarikei regardless of their race, religion or politics.
“I would like to thank Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg for giving Sarikei the funds be they for education, cultural or sports, which will benefit everyone.”
At the same time, the president of the Sarikei Basketball Association extended his appreciation to Huang for the funds to build the stadium.
