KUCHING: A conference on satellite technology will be held at Pullman Hotel here from Sept 23-24.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate at The Acceleration & Innovation through Satelite Applications Sarawak (Aisas) Conference organised by Borneo Centralised Monitoring Centre (BCMC), a subsidiary of Kasi group.
BCMC director Richard Song revealed this yesterday at a press conference at Tun Jugah Tower.
He said the conference would highlight Sarawak as a role model in taking the lead towards digital economy.
Song added that the conference was targeted at industry players in line with the state’s vision of transforming its economy and being in the forefront of the digital world.
“We expect delegates from Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Brunei and Malaysia. The speakers will be from Singapore, United Kingdom, United States and Malaysia.
“Papers on the progress of Information Technology will be presented to participants and delegates.
“The chief minister is very passionate (about technology) and excited that he will officiate at the launch of the conference.”
Song also revealed that in line with BCMC and Kasi Group’s corporate responsibility programme (CSR), the participation fee for youths would be subsidised; they would only be charged RM50 per person.
Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) Digital Economy administrative officer Shia Yang said,“SMA is embarking on driving the digital economy as mandated by the Chief Minister. This is in terms of projects along with research and development (R&D).”
Also present at the press conference was Place Borneo director and principal consultant Gracie Geikei.
“Yesterday, he urged us to explore satellite technology so that we can locate oil reserves in the state.
“We hope that the conference will attract technology enthusiasts, local and international companies as well as learning institutions.”
