KUCHING: The people living under the Satok constituency are urged to take advantage of the facilities and opportunities made available by the Sarawak Government.
This includes the Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS), which offers a maximum RM10,000 deposit for low- and middle-income households to own their first home.
Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki, when met by reporters, said that there is a problem with spacing for the people in Sarawak.
“Land does not grow, but people do, and if people grow, where are they going to stay?
“The housing costs are very high nowadays, so how can we help them? If the people in the B40 or M40 groups want to purchase a home, the Sarawak government can help by giving RM10,000 for free to pay for their deposit.
“At the same time, the people can also acquire a loan from the state-owned financing agency, Mutiara Mortgage and Finance (MMF),” he said, adding that people who are in need of housing should take advantage of this opportunity.
He told this to reporters during his Hari Raya open house at Dewan Datuk Merpati Jepang, Satok today (Apr 23).
In addition, Ibrahim said that new low-cost housing in Segedup and Sungai Maong areas are currently in the works. The land has been identified, and the Land and Survey Department is finalising the process.
“The Public Works Department (JKR) or the Sarawak government will then provide the cost for infrastructure development. Once it is done, we will split the land and distribute it to the needy in the area, those who really require housing,” he said.
