KUCHING: Satok Festival will be making a comeback after the COVID-19 pandemic is completely wiped out.

In stating this, Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said an evaluation on the current situation is needed before such a festival is organised.

“InsyaAllah we will organise the Satok Festival after the COVID-19 subsides. It may be next year or soon, we are not sure as now it is the rainy season.

“However, if anyone wants to open stalls in conjunction with the holding of the Satok Festival, we will try to propose the matter to the relevant party,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after his Christmas celebration walkabout with Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, at Jalan Nanas here today (Dec 24).

In proposing to hold such a festival initially during the weekends, he said it is currently still in the planning stage.

Nevertheless, he said, the Satok Bazaar Ramadan would be continued next year.

“InsyaAllah, the Bazaar will open as usual from the beginning of the Ramadan month,” he said.

During the walkabout, Ibrahim and Fadillah gave out Christmas cookies to the patrons at Jalan Nanas here.

Ibrahim commented that it is a culture in Sarawak to celebrate various festivities together no matter what their race is.

“Celebrating festivities together can bring Sarawakians to be close to one another, especially the young people so that they can live in harmony,” he said.
