MUKAH: About 50 youth participated in the Malaysian Volunteer Mobilisation Programme (SATRIA) to care for the elderly and children at the Mukah Divisional Level, here, yesterday.
The selected locations are the Mukah Senior Citizen Activity Centre (PAWE) and the Mukah Community Centre (PDK).
This programme is organised by the Mukah Division Youth and Sports Office in collaboration with the Mukah Division Welfare Office and Mukah New Township Youth Club.
According to Mukah Assistant Youth and Sports Officer Muhammad Arbi Rosli, the programme is under the Rakan Muda: Rakan Prihatin Programme.
“It aims to expose volunteers with children and the elderly and give them the opportunity to care for these groups.
“Through activities like this, it indirectly strengthens the relationship between each other and improves communication with the group concerned physically,” he told Suara Sarawak.
He explained that this relaxing programme also benefits the youth who participate, especially when they hear the experiences of the people in question.
Meanwhile, Arbi also thanked the Mukah Division Social Welfare Office, Mukah PAWE, Mukah PDK, Mukah Giatmara and Sarawak Skills Development Centre (PPKS) Mukah for participating in the programme.
He also said that without their help, this programme might not run as smoothly as planned.
He added that through this programme, youth could be educated to respect the elderly and children.
Also attending the programme was Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine.
