KUCHING: The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) is gearing up to celebrate its highly anticipated annual event, SBC Biodiversity Day 2023.
This event is held in conjunction with the International Day for Biological Diversity, which falls tomorrow (May 22).
The celebration, themed “From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity,” aims to raise awareness and encourage action in support of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
Scheduled for this May 27, the event will take place at KM20, Jalan Borneo Heights, Semenggoh, Kuching, from 8 am to 5 pm.
SBC Biodiversity Day offers a wide range of activities to engage and educate the public, including science game exhibitions, traditional knowledge showcases, guided jungle trekking, and exhibitions from various agencies and local communities.
The event also aimed to highlight the importance of biodiversity conservation to attendees, including school students, universities, and research institutes.
SBC chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Yeo Tiong Chia emphasised the significance of this year’s theme, stating, “This year’s theme is important as we continue to work towards protecting and conserving our rich biodiversity. We hope to inspire action and promote awareness among the public, especially the younger generation.”
Admission to SBC Biodiversity Day 2023 is free, allowing a broad audience to participate in the festivities.
The event serves as an opportunity for individuals to learn about the importance of biodiversity and the efforts being made to safeguard it.
