KUCHING: The Sarawak Career and Training Fair (SCaT Fair) 2018 to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre (BCCK) from 9-11 March is offering a total of 5,562 jobs opportunities to job seekers.
Assistant Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment, Datu Len Talif Salleh said that the employment opportunities would be offered by 67 various companies taking part in the fair which is the seventh fair being held since 2012.
“There are many job opportunities available during the three-day fair. We are targeting it to be attended by not less than 20,000 visitors who are looking for job opportunities or skills training,” he said during the SCaT Fair 2018 press conference at BCCK, Sejingkat here last Tuesday.
Len added that SCaT Fair 2018 is jointly organised by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Research (MESTR) and Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Bumiputera Sarawak (TEGAS).
SCaT Fair 2018 is open to the public from 8am to 5pm, with the opening ceremony on March 10 which is expected to be officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“Overall, SCaT Fair 2018 will have a total of 153 participants comprising 67 participants from industry employers while 70 participants from skills training institutions, nine participants from financial aid institutions and seven participants from government agencies,” he said.
Among the industry employers are Petronas, Sarawak Shell Berhad, Hilton Hotel, Damai Beach Resort, Electronik Store (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Berhad, Central Cold Storage Kuching, X-Fab Sdn Bhd, Longi (Kuching Sdn Bhd) and Taiyo Yuden Sdn Bhd.
The skills training institutes involved are Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Politeknik Kuching, Politeknik Mukah, Politeknik Metro Betong, Laila Taib College, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and the German-Malaysian Institute.
Meanwhile, the financial aid institutions are Sarawak State Public Service Commission, Yayasan Sime Darby Foundation, Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera, Skills Development Fund Corporation, Sin Chiew Daily Education Fund, Yayasan Khazanah, Sarawak State Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN), Sarawak Baitulmal Fund and Yayasan Sarawak.
“We are also targeting to bring about 1,500 students from Kuching, Serian, Kota Samarahan, Bau and Lundu to visit this year’s exhibition,” he said.
Len pointed out that among the interesting activities for visitors of SCaT Fair 2018 are the opportunity to try the flight simulator, chance to join Next Big Chef 2018 cooking competition organised by UCSI University, Hackweekend Kch and STEM Playground 2018, an interactive family-friendly exhibition.
