SIBU: As Sarawak embarks on its journey towards becoming a high-income state, it is imperative to generate a skilled workforce to support the development agenda. 

Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Datuk Seri Roland Sagah Wee Inn said event like the Sarawak Career and Training Fair (SCaT Fair) plays a pivotal role in connecting talented individuals with the resources and information needed to succeed in their chosen fields.

“This fair not only showcases the wealth of opportunities available but also underscores our commitment to nurturing and developing a skilled workforce.

“By investing in our human capital, we are ensuring the economic prosperity of our rakyat, fostering social inclusivity, and promoting environmental sustainability,” he said at the launching ceremony of the two-day SCaT Fair 2024 held at Indoor Stadium Sibu yesterday (Nov 2).

The Scat Fair happening on Nov 2 – 3 is organised by MEITD in collaboration with Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS).

Sagah was represented by his deputy, Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee who delivered his speech.

With the strong support of the educational institutions, private employers, and government agencies, Sagah stressed that his ministry aims to cultivate a vibrant society driven by innovation and sustainability. 

According to him, the SCaT Fair is a testament to MEITD’s dedication to fostering a culture of lifelong learning and collaboration, ensuring that every citizen has equal access to education, training, and employment opportunities.

This Scat Fair serves as a vital platform for job seekers, students, and educators to gain first-hand insights into a myriad of career and training opportunities.

“In today’s rapidly evolving job market, access to information about potential career paths and training programmes is essential for both personal and professional growth,” he said.

“This year, we are thrilled to welcome over 1,100 job opportunities from various sectors, allowing attendees to engage directly with employers and educational institutions. This interaction is crucial for students nearing graduation as it empowers them to make informed decisions about their future careers.

“Therefore, I encourage all students, job seekers, and educators to take full advantage of this event. Engage actively, ask questions, and explore the wealth of knowledge and opportunities available.

Earlier, in the welcoming speech, TEGAS chief executive officer, Haji Udin Bujang said over 40 educational institutions and more than 30 companies conducted open interviews during the fair, in collaboration with Social Security Organisation (SOCSO).

He stressed that this year’s fair is a testament to the collective efforts in shaping Sarawak’s future by creating a platform that not only informs but inspires.

“I encourage all of you to make the most of this opportunity. Whether you’re a student exploring your next steps in education, a job seeker looking for new opportunities, or someone who’s keen to upgrade your skills through the various competitions organised, this is your chance to learn, connect, and grow.

University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) vice chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) deputy chairman, Mohammed Abdullah Izkandar Roseley were among those present.
