SIBU: Anti-rabies prevention operations will be carried out in this division for nine days between July 13 and 30.
The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) yesterday released a statement confirming that free vaccinations would be given to dogs. The operations which will be conducted in two sessions – from 5.30am to 9.30am and from 3pm to 8pm – will cover specific areas within the town and is scheduled respectively.
The statement reminded the public and dog owners to ensure that their dogs are within the compounds of their houses as any dogs found roaming during the operation period will be caught and its owners ‘compounded.
“Dogs which roam around will be caught and the owner will be compounded for not complying with directives,” they said.
For the morning session, the operation will be conducted from Jalan Brooke Drive to Jalan Pedada (July 14), at Kampung Bahagia Jaya (July 15) and near Jalan Teng Chin Hua to Jalan Ling Kai Cheng (July 16).
From July 17 onwards, the operation will cover Jalan Bandung to Sungai Merah, Jalan Kampung Datu to Jalan Bandung (July 27), Jalan Brooke Drive to Jalan Pedada(July 28), Kampung Bahagia (July 29), and the Ulu Sungai Merah area(July 30).
For the afternoon session, the areas to be covered are Jalan Belatok to Jalan Adruce Tun Ahmad Zaidi (July 13), the Permai area (July 14), the Ulu Sungai Merah area (July 15), Jalan Oya Lama and Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (July 16).
From July 17 onwards, the operation will cover the area of Sibu Jaya, Jalan Belatok to Jalan Adruce Tun Ahmad Zaidi (July 27), the Permai area (July 28), Jalan Oya Lama and Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (July 29), and the Sibu Jaya area (July 30).
The statement added that the vaccinations for pet dogs with owners will be carried out by veterinarians for free.
“Together, we can prevent and eliminate rabies,” read the statement.
