KUCHING: Parents are flocking to shopping malls and outlets to purchase school uniforms and other necessities as they prepare for their children to enter the new school session on January 2, 2020.
While most parents have already prepared much earlier during the school holidays, some were seen doing last minute shopping for the school items yesterday.
Customs officer Kesuma Edinan, 33, said she had prepared the school supplies for her three children since early November.
“Their school bags, uniforms, and books have all been bought,” she said, adding that it could be a challenge to find a suitable uniform size for one of her children, thus the early preparation.
She added that her children were excited to go back to school.
Meanwhile, 52-year-old clerk Dayang Nor Ashikin said the preparations were simple for her daughter who is entering Form 3 next year — with books, shoes, and other schooling necessities at the ready.
Her daughter, Noor Azwa Safrina Mohamad, who attends SMK St Mary, revealed that she spent her school holidays doing some revision and catching up on her rest.
“I am excited to go back to school to make new friends, meet my teachers, and learn new things,” she told New Sarawak Tribune when met yesterday.
Senior accounts officer Gerald Ong, 41, said his daughter had recently gone to school to register for Primary 2.
“We did not have to prepare the uniforms this year as she will be using the ones she already has. We have gotten everything else ready like exercise books and other necessities,” he said, adding that his children had been attending tuition classes.
With two daughters attending SJK Chung Hua No. 5, 38-year-old Hong Wan Wan revealed that she had prepared their school supplies earlier this month.
“We started preparing in the second week of the school holidays,” she said with a smile.
Her daughters wished that the school holidays were longer so that they could have more time to enjoy themselves.
Government officer Catherina Jackson, 36, said she started preparing stationery and school bags a week before school begins.
“We normally get school uniforms ready about two weeks before because of the sizes,” she said.
She added that the preparations were generally simple as she only has a nine-year-old son.
“He kept himself busy during the school holidays by going to tuition classes on the weekends.”
Clerk Edra Liza, 39, said she started preparing the school supplies for her children this week, but had prepared the school books earlier on.
“During the school holidays, they went back to our village to spend time with the family,” she added.
