MUKAH: Three students from St Patrick Secondary School — Daniel Tay Hong Yong, Alphonsus Velariey Takin and Muhd Irfan Syahmi Ramli — will be representing Sarawak in the National Robotics Competition (NRC) which will be held in Kedah in September.
They have recently won the state-level NRC held at SMK Chung Hua Miri in the Regular Upper Rookie category.
The team, under the supervision of their teacher Ismandi Dillah, also managed to capture the Gold Award (Smart Grid) for the same category, beating six other teams.
Meanwhile, the first and second runner-up of the category went to SMK Batu Kawa, Kuching and SMK Pujut, Miri, respectively.
Ismandi said the success that they obtained would not be possible had it not been for the effort and the training that went into their bid.
“All the sacrifices finally reaped its rewards and it is one that means a lot to this team.
“It’s not only about winning, but the end goal is to nurture a new generation that is capable of mastering technology, engineering basics, mathematics and creativity.
“Every other team comes with the hope, innovation and creativity to complete their mission.
“The work ethic and the discipline that the team displayed is one of the pillars for their success.
“This wouldn’t be possible also if it wasn’t for school principal Anthony Poon Tech Huat, other teachers as well as the parents who are very understanding and supportive,” he said.
Assistant coach Ahmad Aisamuddin Abdullah thanked the donors and their contribution as it was needed for them team to achieve such success.
Meanwhile, the schools bid for the Regular Lower Rookie category only ended in them securing fourth place among nine contesting teams. The team was represented by Mohd Azim Wan Mohd, Dominic Idau Nyadang and Joshua Johnny.
