KOTA PADAWAN: The Waste Separation Programme, targeting primary and secondary schools, is designed to educate students and the broader school community about the consequences of unmanaged waste disposal on health and the environment.
Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) chairman Tan Kai said that the dangers of improperly disposing of materials such as plastic, paper, and aluminium will contribute to the breeding of mosquitoes and rodents, leading to diseases.
“Through this programme, we aim to instill a recycling culture within students and the school community,” Tan Kai said during the prize-giving ceremony here today (Nov 28).
The programme, spanning nine months from March to November 2023, has witnessed positive community engagement.
He advocated for a collaborative effort between PMC, Trienekens Sarawak Sdn.Bhd, and participating schools to ensure the programme’s success, benefiting both students and local residents.
He cited the Malay proverb, “Melentur buluh biarlah dari rebungnya,” to stress the importance of cultivating these habits from a young age.
