SARIKEI: The flood mitigation project at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Ulu Meradong, valued at RM147,915, has been completed ahead of schedule.
Repok assemblyman Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, in a statement, said the Sarikei Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) executed the project, which included cleaning and dredging a 980-metre long ditch.
Additionally, a 160-metre long concrete drainage system, measuring two feet in width and height, was constructed within the school premises to address flood issues.
The project’s timely completion was celebrated at a DID handover ceremony last Friday, attended by Gung Chiu Kion on behalf of Huang who is the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change and Sarikei MP.
Concurrently, a delegation from the Sarikei service centre, along with DID engineering representatives, conducted an inspection of the finished project.
Towards this end, Huang expressed his hope that students would now have a safer and more conducive learning environment at the school.
Acting promptly upon receiving the school’s request, he addressed the recurring flooding issue.
Also present was DID assistant engineer Abdul Rashid.
